Dong Siri Oil Platform
During routine maintenance of the Dong Siri off shore oil platform (situated on the Danish continental shelf), cracks were discovered in the platform’s 50,000 cubic meter subsea oil storage tank. In the Autumn of 2012 Millar Callaghan were approached by French engineering specialists Freyssinet, to fabricate a new support unit to allow strengthening cables to be assembled and shipped out to the Danish oil field in an attempt to stabilise the Dong Siri platform.
Due to the scale of the fabrication and support cables, the work had to be carried out in a 60,000 sq/ft hanger, located in a ship building yard in Dundee. All of the fabrication, welding and NDT testing was carried out in our Irvine workshop. The transport police were then informed that the completed sub-components were being transported to Glasgow to be painted and then on to Dundee for their final assembly. When the materials arrived at Dundee they were assembled into the support structure. Further quality testing was carried out on the completed structure before it was cleared for use.
At the end of the contract Millar Callaghan’s quality department presented the client with a quality package, giving full traceability of the materials, consumables, welding procedures, welder qualifications and NDT & UT reports.
