The A81 between Balfron Railway Station and Ballat crossroads has been reopened following its closure in September 2016. The road was closed immediately after a heavy goods vehicle carrying an earthmover struck the bridge, which carries seven main water pipes supplying the city of Glasgow with water from Loch Katrine. Millar Callaghan were awarded the contract to fabricate and install the new bridge. In addition to the new structure, collision protection barriers were installed at the approach to the bridge, on both sides, to prevent similar strikes in the future.
