East Kilbride Shopping Centre

A total refurbishment of East Kilbride Shopping Centre took place in 2004. This refurbishment included new granite paving, car parks, bus stations and street furniture.

Millar Callaghan were awarded the contract to fabricate and install 400 meters of new stainless steel pedestrian barriers.  A full survey was carried out of all locations requiring barriers. Detailed design drawings were then presented to the client for approval before our workshop went into fabrication on the new barriers.

All new stainless steel was quarantined in a carbon free area and manufactured in a clean-room environment to avoid cross contamination with carbon steels. When the fabrication was complete each section was pickled in acid and polished to a satin finish. The sections were then bubble wrapped and dispatched to site.

On site, the positions of the vertical posts were marked on the new granite paving and kerb stones. Holes were then cored out of the granite to the required depth. The barrier sections were then installed and grouted in position. Some site welding and final polishing was required to complete the installation before being handed over to the client.
